I love technology and love talking about it but so far I’ve not really mentioned it much on my blog, which for me is quite strange. So I thought I’d do a post looking at how technology has effected the fashion industry as a whole and what the benefits are and also the downsides to a tech laced fashion world. The closet I’ve come is my recent post on look books, which if you haven’t read already you should really check out.
The best example to use is fashion week, if you take London Fashion Week for example that has just passed. In days gone by you’d have to wait for Vogue to come out before you can see photos. Now you can check the internet and see the shows straight after they’ve finished. There are even fashion houses now that offer a live stream of the show so you can watch it as it happens. Who needs ticket?
Not only that but social media really has allowed fashion to go mainstream. The fashion industry as a whole has, to a degree had an elitist reputation. But the advent of blogging and social media has allowed people to take fashion into their own hands, the spreading of information, the forming of trends all can be dictated by the general public because of social media. There’s no greater testament to that than the hordes of bloggers that are invited to fashion weeks across the globe each season. Even in the small amount of time that blogging has grown we’ve had the impact of the smart phone and more recently the tablet that as allowed us to comment on the world of fashion while on the move.
You then have the whole concept of buying fashion online, which has given us access to more clothes than we could ever dream of. I can now buy clothes from as far as Japan from brands that I’d never have previously had access to. Online retailers have been so successful that many believe that they’re killing off the high street.
Those are a few of my favourite ways which technology has changed fashion. But I’d love to hear yours…
