A couple of weeks ago I spied a little twitter debate going on with Faye from all these pretty things and Jessie from Fashionlimbo. The debate was centred around a picture from Mr Newton’s street style blog. I’ve re posted the picture and would like you to take a look and ask yourself is this look inappropriate?
It looks great as photograph and would probably look at home on the catwalk or in a fashion magazine. But for a daywear look… really? This where, in my opinion, we sometimes have to take a step back out of our fashion ‘bubble’ and realise the rest of the world is not bound by the same values and norms that are common place in the fashion world. A lot of looks when sent down the catwalk only work in that particular scenario, outside of that ‘world’ it ends up looking over the top and ‘too fashion’.
Style vs Fashion
Which brings us back to the concept of style vs fashion. If style and fashion were the same everybody would just copy what was on the catwalk and in the magazines. But we know it’s not as simple as that, in this case the lady in the photo could be deemed ‘too fashionable’ as she has literally taken (the top half at least) her look from the catwalk. But you wouldn’t really consider her stylish, her look is grossly inappropriate for the day time or even the night time with her breasts on show.
I don’t know maybe I’m completely missing the point of the look? Please fill me in.
