Iranian Street Style

November 16, 2013 by Arash Mazinani 28 Comments

For those that are regular readers of my blog you maybe aware that I’m half Iranian. Often people hear my surname and think I’m Italian, however that’s not the case. My father’s from Tehran and my mother, Yorkshire. So I was really excited and pleased to find a blog dedicated to Iranian street style. Yes! it does exist and I was just as surprised as most are when I tell them about it. I’m not going to go straight into the pictures, I will post a few. But I’ll link you to the entire blog that contains the collection.

I guess my reaction to finding it illustrates how we often just take what’s portrayed in the media as gospel, without giving it much consideration.

Street Style Icons: Catherine Summers

August 17, 2013 by Arash Mazinani 15 Comments

Catherine is a member of the 40+ blogger tribe, one I love dearly. I’ve known her for a while on the blogosphere, she has great style and a fabulous blog. I really recommend checking out her photography section if you’re a keen photographer, I’ve learnt an awful lot from her posts and you can tell she knows her stuff from her stunning photos. She recently launched ‘accentuate the positive’ a campaign aimed at encouraging women to be proud of their bodies, something I preach on a personal level with the clients I work with and also on the blog. Definitely head over to her blog, take in her gorgeous style, check out her recent interview she did with Gok Wan and like her accentuate the positive page!

Street Style Icons: Courtney Hayes

April 20, 2013 by Arash Mazinani 8 Comments

There were a couple of my Twitter followers discussing Courtney’s fabulous style a couple of weeks back. Naturally, I had to click through and see what all the fuss was about. On my first viewing there were a couple of things that struck me about her style: she certainly wasn’t shy about wearing bright colours and her shoe game was tight! Any blog that mixes bold colours and great shoes instantly wins me over and I knew straight away that I wanted her to feature as a street style icon. She had agreed to allow me to interview her and feature on my blog within a few days of discovering her site ‘CupcakeObsessions‘. You should definitely check her out, especially if you’re a bit shy about using colour and need some ideas for combining colour palettes. So let’s see where she get’s her inspiration from…

Street Style Icons: Lauren Canning

December 22, 2012 by Arash Mazinani 14 Comments

This month I’m delighted to chat to the lovely Lauren from thestyletag.com. I actually got in touch with Lauren after I decided to start the street style icons series after being a long time fan of her site. Also with her being a fellow Leeds blogger I really wanted to get some local street style icons on board, so she was my first choice. I’ve always loved the outfits that she puts together so I knew I had to get her featured in this series. Everything about this outfit was great, the faux fur, the skirt with the cute bow detail and the lovely printed scarf tied to her handbag.

What’s your name and where are you from?

My name is Lauren and I’m from Kent but currently living in Leeds.

Talk us through what you’re wearing

I’m wearing an owl jumper from New Look, a leather pencil skirt from Mango, a bow belt from Matalan, faux fur scarf from moore & moore, tote bag from Zara and big old heels from New Look!

How would you describe your style?

My style is a mix bag of everything really. Very high street and thought out. I don’t just pull something on and rock it; I don’t even think Kate Moss can honestly say she does that! I like to make an effort, experiment with trends and play with textures.

Street Style Icons: Laura Taylor

October 20, 2012 by Arash Mazinani 12 Comments

This Month I’m delighted to chat with the lovely Laura for the street style icons series. I’ve known Laura for a relatively short period of time, we met during a #blogtrends twitter chat and she was really laid back and had a passion for blogging. She has her own beauty and lifestyle blog that features some amazing youtube tutorials and reviews. You can check her out at www.lovelaurax.com. I loved her edgy, rock-chic look and she has some cool ideas for staying inspired when it comes to her own style.

What’s your name and where are you from?

Laura Taylor from Northwich, Cheshire

Talk us through what you’re wearing

Starting from the bottom, I’m wearing black velvet flatform wedges from Boohoo.com; tights from H&M; high-waisted shorts from New Look; sheer leopard print blouse from Primark with a New Look vest underneath and handbag from Debenhams.

How would you describe your style?

I’m not sure about this one so I asked my friends. I got “classic, yet slightly quirky”, “stylish and casual at the same time” and “girly with a slight rock-chick edge”.

High Street Honey or Designer Diva?

High Street Honey all the way! I get bored of clothes so soon that I couldn’t justify spending an extortionate amount of money on one item.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

From other girls on the street and the models on ASOS.com. I’ll see something that someone’s wearing and be like “oh my gosh that’s gorgeous” and then I don’t copy it, but I’ll use it as inspiration. Sometimes I’ll be looking at someone’s outfit and they catch me in the act and seem to think I’m looking in a nasty way (Girls are weird!) I wish I could say “No, I’m not being nasty – you just look fit!”

What makes your style your own, what’s your signature look?

Hmm. I like big hair and leather jackets (faux leather – I don’t like wearing an actual cow.)

What one piece are you coveting at the moment?

Some rather fit and snugly winter boots.

What are the 3 most important pieces in your wardrobe?

Leggings, long tops and a coat to throw on top if it all goes wrong.

What one piece of fashion advice would you give to readers?

Eeek. I’m not really a fashionista but just to listen to your own thoughts about an outfit and not anyone else. I learnt this little piece of advice from myself the other night. I wasn’t too sure about a dress but my mum and boyfriend told me I looked gorgeous in it so I wore it anyway. I felt horrible for the rest of the night, which made me lose my confidence and then probably come across as awkward (not attractive). They probably did think I looked nice in it, but if you don’t feel nice, it’s going to show through your body language.

If you’re interested in being featured in the series I’d love for you to get in touch. You can email me here, leave a comment below or hit me up on Twitter or Facebook.

As always I’d love to hear from you, maybe you know a street style icon yourself? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Introducing Street Style Icons

October 6, 2012 by Arash Mazinani 16 Comments

I read an interesting article recently from the New York Times which was then picked up and blogged on IFB. It was posted around New York Fashion Week when our feeds and timelines were getting filled with shots of glamorous looking figures out side fashion shows. The article talks about how designers and PR agencies are using the bloggerati to showcase their clothes or push their brands. But this time the platform is street style. Some are even staged to the point where the hair and make up is done professionally, the street corner carefully selected, the clothes gifted or borrowed and then the pictures photoshopped. Leaving very little between your average magazine shoot and the supposed ‘street style’ shots.

We’ve been led to believe street style was the last hope of purity, shots of indie people, free from corporate sponsorship. The chances are your favourite street style blog has featured some shots of people branded to the nines, especially over fashion week. Even the regular shots on some blogs feature women that all seem to come from the same mould. It’s like there is a conveyor belt somewhere churning out slim women with a taste for high end fashion.

Don’t get me wrong I still love street style blogs and there is definitely a place for them. They’re great resources for inspiration, but it does seem that the days of them showcasing genuinely real people, with their own clothes could be numbered.

All photos from waynetippets.com probably my favourite street style blog

This leads me onto the whole concept of ‘street style icons’ I’d been wanting to do something like this for a while and came up with the idea recently.

I’m looking for stylish people, can be a blogger or not, to feature in my street style icons series. The posts will be once a month and feature a different person talking about their style, inspiration, favourite clothes/brands etc. But it will feature real people with real clothes, for any bloggers that do appear any ‘gifted’ items need to stay in the wardrobe.

I have a couple of people lined up already but if you’re interested in being featured in the series I’d love for you to get in touch. You can email me here, leave a comment below or hit me up on Twitter or Facebook.

It doesn’t matter what age, race, size you are as long as you’re stylish I’d love to hear from you!
