Street Style Icons: Faye Jones

November 17, 2012 by Arash Mazinani 4 Comments

This month I’m delighted to chat to the fabulous Faye for my street style icons series. Faye got in touch after I posted about my desires to start this series. She was immediately excited about it and wanted to get on board. She runs an awesome fashion blog which you can check out at www.iwishicouldwink.blogspot.com. I’m a massive fan of the nail art she posts on there so I really recommend you check out her blog. I loved the vintage vibe of this outfit with the perfect use of autumnal colours and fabrics, finished with some lovely ‘white out’ nails.

What’s your name and where are you from?
My name’s Faye and I’m from Bristol but at the moment I live in west London.

Talk us through what you’re wearing

I’m wearing an oversized burgandy jumper from Topshop (from years ago!) which I’ve layered over a white shirt. I’ve tucked them both into my pleather skater skirt from Primark, added a vintage cameo brooch which my Nan gave me and paired it all with my River Island boots, which are my new favourite thing ever. I’m also sporting my favourite arm candy which I wear every day- watch from River Island (amazing dupe of Michael Kors), spike bracelet from Topshop and lion head bangle from ASOS. My bag is from Romwe.

How would you describe your style?
I think my style is a mix between masculine and feminine and I like to dress quite simply- I love to take unusual textures or prints and let them be the main focus of the outfit. I’m a sucker for shirts, shorts, chain type necklaces and anything that reminds me of Chanel or Proenza Schouler. I also like to pay attention to small details, like rolling up a sleeve or tucking in a jumper, and I think nails are the best accessory- I’m obsessed with nail art and love buying new nail polishes.

High Street Honey or Designer Diva?

Definitely high street, but I like getting affordable designer pieces like my YSL arty ring.I also really love vintage things, especially bags and jewellery which I find in charity shops or jumble sales (or ‘borrow’ from various family members)

Where do you get your inspiration from?
Mainly blogs and YouTube, but also celebrities like the Olsen Twins, Miroslava Duma and Miranda Kerr, and people on the street. Especially girls that work in shops like Topshop and American Apparel.

What makes your style your own, what’s your signature look?
I think my signature look is tailored with a twist- I love mannish styles like shorts, blazers and brogues but always try to make them feminine with a skater skirt or a girly print. I make my style my own by following some great advice I read in Elle once that I always consider when getting dressed, which was to add something unexpected. So for example, I will dress up an jeans, t shirt and high tops outfit with a printed blazer to add a smarter element, rather than just adding a typical leather jacket or hoody.

What one piece are you coveting at the moment?
Dream- Valentino Va Va Voom clutch in black http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/105954
Reality- Some ripped boyfriend jeans a la Acne and a red leather (or pleather) jacket

What are the 3 most important pieces in your wardrobe?
A white shirt, leather shorts and a chunky gold chain necklace.

What one piece of fashion advice would you give to readers?
Get inspiration from everywhere- keep a scrapbook with pictures you find in magazines (or use Tumblr/Pinterest), and adapt trends to suit your body shape. On the high street go for quality over quantity for items that will get a lot of wear like boots and coats, buy the best you can afford. Use cheaper high street shops like Primark and New Look to get more trend led pieces that might date after one or two seasons. When shopping, check the item you want to buy goes with at least 3 things you already own, or you just know it will hang around unworn in your wardrobe for months. Finally, have fun with what you wear and stray outside your comfort zone once in a while to keep your look fresh.

Great series! I like how a white shirt is essential in her (overall) style, it’s so versatile for all seasons and occasions. I love her jewellery selections for her outfit! Have a great weekend!
